VBA update on plumbing registration and licensing for fire protection
Earlier in the year the Victorian Government passed the Plumbing
Regulations 2018. The new regulation, which came into effect 19 November
2018, requires those performing routine servicing of fire hydrant systems
and fire hose reel systems to hold a plumbing registration.
Since this time the VBA has held a number of industry forums and
information sessions to discuss the impact of these changes to the fire
protection industry. Resulting from these discussions the VBA have
released updated information where they commit to developing restricted
classes of registration and licensing. As well as the opportunity to
enable those already in the workforce to gain recognition for existing
experience, competency and skills to ensure individuals are appropriately
registered or licensed.
AESG recommends that all managers and owners consult with all there fire
maintenance contractors to ensure that contractors / staff are duly
qualified and experienced to complete all works onsite.
